[VIDEO] Painting the Traxxas Slash 4x4 Short Course Truck body - Ivan Stewart Toyota Theme

Trying out a multi-colored theme for the first time...

Doing the usuals, washing the body with soap, using polycarbonate paints, pressing the masks securely using finger nails... etc...
Do let me know if I've made any mistakes in the process. Smile

Thanks for watching!

Great job! Your process seems spot on (from what I can tell watching a lot of YT painting videos Smile )

I wouldn't have done a silver backing though, only white. The issue I have with silver (which I used on my buggy as well as the Dingo; white whas sold out back then Sad ) is that it gets rough due to the metal particles in the paint -- at least the Tamiya silver; haven't used the Murmeisha silver yet.

haha... guess we have been watching the same few painting videos. Very Happy

Yeah, the Murmeisha silver has a rough finish too. Smile
I backed with Silver cos initially wanted to back with another layer of black...

end up didn't go for the final black coat... cos i forgot to buy another extra can of black... was worried that it might not be enough... Very Happy

vid so fast leh. Some questions:

1. What kind of spray paint? those from hardware store can or special type?
2. Must you sand the body first or can just spray straight?
3. Did u lacquer over or no need? yours look really shiny.
4. How did u do the customised decals? can't find clear decal paper in Singapore leh.

Hi bro...

This is a lexan / polycarbonate clear body, so will need paint suitable for polycarbonate... Tamiya PS paint are great, but I used a cheaper brand, murmeisha... Paints from hardware shops cannot be used on lexan body...

2. For lexan shell, just need to wash with soap and air dry...

3. Lexan shell are sprayed from the inside... Hence, it looks shiny.... Smile

1. Like Bro Boo said: need special "polycarbonate" paint, otherwise it will fall off at the first knock. Murmeisha is available at JetHobbies. It is about SGD 6.5 a can, and the cans are almost 2 times the size of the SGD 10 Tamiya cans.

2) Do not sand, it will create a matte (flat) finish. Just dish washing liquid with water, works very well.

3) The shinyness is because you have to paint lexan on the *inside*. So when you view from the outside the lexan itself creates the deep, shiny look!

AH I see! no wonder i kept wondering why u tape and spray inside, lol. Tks for the info, now I know!

As for the decals, I read up that clear decal (the waterslide one) must order from US. Here sell only white b/g ones. Then even after you inkjet print, you need to spray 2-3 clear coats on it to waterproof the ink.

Don't use those... those will fade....
