Stripped DriveShaft screw

Grrr, just stripped my drive shaft screw on the new junfac ones just received. I think the new drive shaft wasnt threaded properly and got tight when tightening the grub securing screw. It got stuck and rounded halfway cannot go in or out. Mad

Anyone veterans got any suggestions/solutions/tooling suitable for removal without destroying the new drive shaft threaded hole?

Can't sleep well coz of this.. lol.. Razz

Any photos to take a look?

You can usually drill thru the rounded grub screw to remove it without damaging the threaded hole....

Haha yea.. at the same time too..

Mine has a bit of protruding screw, was wondering if can use that somehow to create something that can be gripped or make new head and turn out..

Else gotta beg/borrow/steal a drill to drill it out *sigh*.. Sad

That's a tough one. I would remove the pieces from the car, and strip them down as much as possible. I.e. take out the shaft from the axle housing, and dismantle the CVD of the drive shaft so that you are only left with the bare minimum of parts (all metal).

Then try to cut a slot into the grub screw with a very fine blade (coping saw, art saw with metal blade). Then heat up the part of the drive shaft so that it expands a bit, and try to take it out with a flat head screw driver very carefully.

From the photo it looks that the grub screw did not went in straight but at an angle, causing the damage.

Thanks. Will try that the next time I do some axle maintenance. Meanwhile was thinking of just thread lock it and leave as is and see if it survives this weekend trailing lol. Seems that it will hold for the time being... keeping fingers crossed..

I think heating it as proposed is a good idea indeed.. but creating the slot to allow screw driver use might be a challenge since this guy is really only 3mm dia..

the grub is protruding a bit, maybe u can try using a plier, clamp hard with your dear life and unscrew.

Latest update.. tried gripping with a grip wrench and grub screw remains got crushed/flatten, now left a lil bit non-grip-able anymore. I think have to live with it for the time being until I can try out laneboy proposal or drill out.
I figured better not to mess further with it if it can still temporarily hold the joint, at least until have the ordered replacement screw in hand. Laughing

Thats bad luck man.

Now its going to hard going seeing that you can't apply alot of heat. I have same problem two weeks ago with China driveshaft.

End up i need to drill out pins as screw extractor still never work.

Fortunately "China" driveshaft have 2mm hex head. I can tap new M4 thread onto the driveshaft
after drilling.

By the way what's the smallest size that we can still use a screw exctractor? M3 with a 1.5mm head size is possible?
I think I gotta buy a torque wrench for 1.5mm in the future to avoid such problems of over tightening, had a few brushes with near rounded grubs that had to be replaced before. pale

I know these are hard to find. You can try to get reverse drill bit.

The point size is more important then the bit size.

One old practice was to pretap all plastics and eyelets. Something that not usually applies with metal parts especially aftermarket parts. Very surprising for JunFac.

One thing I also noticed... I maybe wrong.
The SCX10 gearbox outdrive and output shaft from axles have different offset.
Meaning one side of the drive shaft usually fit better one side then other.

From memory again I believe gearbox side have smaller offset then axle output. The difference is very
small not noticable.
