Rally Legends body shells Empty Rally Legends body shells

Post by laneboysrc Sat 28 Jun 2014 - 12:52

Hey everyone,

As many of you know, since quite a while an Italian company called Rally Legends is producing 1:10 scale body shells of many famous rally cars. However, their ordering system was not capable of shipping outside Europe.

In May suddenly Rally Legends bodies appeared from UK sellers on eBay, so I plunged and ordered two of my Rally-heros. Not cheap, including shipping one body comes in at about SGD 120.

This is the Lancia Fulvia 1.6 HF Rally. This particular model won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1972, driven by Sandro Munari.
A friend of mine in Austria had restored a 1.6HF, so I have plenty of miles driven this cute little car. In the road-going version the twin-carb V4 (!) engine produced about 120-130 HP, which is plenty for a car that weighs only 840kg, especially when coupled with the low gear ratio. The car was not fun driving on highways because at 4000 revs in 5th gear you were only going 120km/h, and it was very noisy at that. But show it some winding back-roads in the mountains and it was an absolute blast!

The body shell is very well made, painted, decaled and accessorised. The details are very accurate. They even went through the trouble to mold the rear lights very accurately, and the triangle-shaped rear view mirror. The only thing missing is the chrome frame around the tail lights.

The car is equipped with light buckets, but no LED mounting hardware was included. The red was backed with silver. The black on the hood is "flat", just as it should be. The window tint is too dark though, and has a blue hue. The original car did not have tinted windows. Still, certainly one of the best Lexan scale bodies I have ever seen!

The Fiat 131 Arbath, in "Olio Fiat" trim. Markku Alen drove this one.

In contrast to the Fulvia, the 131 came pre-painted but not cut and no decals or accessories fit. The kit comes with 4 accessory lights, side mirrors, an exhaust, and windscreen wipers.

The shape and quality of the Lexan is very good, but the paint job is a bit of a let-down. Very rough edges that separate the colors, and the wheel arches may even have blue edges where they should be yellow. Many things will be covered up by the decals, but this one is nowhere near as nice as the Lancia Fulvia.

Like the Fulvia, the 131 also has a very short overhang in the front. On a TT02 chassis the bumper does not fit under the shell.

The shell can be lit up front and rear, but no light buckets were included in the kit. Some DIY required.

The Lancia Fulvia, being front wheel drive, will go on a FF03 chassis (Stargek has FF03R for sale right now, just perfect Smile ) The 131 will go on a TT02 Rally that is in the mail.

Happy RC-ing!

Rally Legends body shells Empty Finally done

Post by laneboysrc Sat 23 Aug 2014 - 12:08

Here they are, ready to run:

Rally Legends body shells 14818557517_4a64fd1648

The Fulvia is just gorgeous. One of the nicest shells we own.

The decals are correct in size, text and location. The paint job is spot on. There are lots of plastic accessories like mirrors, wipers, fuel filler cap, etc that make the body come alive.

They even bothered to mold the lights in the rear to the unique shape of the Fulvia.

The Fiat 131 is not as good as the Fulvia. The shell itself is very good in shape, but the paint job is really poor. Lots of blue dirt in the yellow color, jagged edges between the colors, etc.

Also the decals that came with the car are incomplete and many are too large in scale.

To spice up the body we added the stickers on the door, license plates and the front headlamps.

Both the Lancia Fulvia and Fiat 131 shells have very little overhang in the front.
On the FF03 we could not fit the foam bumper for the Lancia Fulvia. Even without it, the plastic parts touch already.
On the Fiat 131 we had to trim the TT02 foam bumper to make it fit.

We run the Fiat 131 shell on a TT02, built to rally spec with more ground clearance. Beside ball bearings and alu shocks the TT02 is completely standard.

We bought the Alfa 155 as a base, which came with the new TBLE-02S ESC. This ESC can be configured for both brushed and sensored brushless motors, making the TT02 kits excellent value for money.

Stargek sold off FF03R kits for low money, so we got a front wheel drive matching chassis for the Lancia Fulvia.
We are running a 17.5T Turnigy motor with an FDR of 4.0.
