1st crawler.. Empty 1st crawler..

Post by kimkim23 Fri 7 Feb 2014 - 13:43

Hi peeps, i'm new to the scene,
Thinking of getting a Vaterra Slickrock 1/18 Mini Rock Buggy for my 1st crawler..
Have been play buggys, etc for the past one month and will like to try out crawling and maybe join u all one day on the trail runs. Not really keen on a 1/10 as i like to prehapes make a mini trail at home next time too.
Any one has one and have some review on it? Surprised  and will this tiny fella be able to pass through the same routes as the ones u guys normally go? will be happy to hear from u all. Thanks!!

hi,
welcome on board...

so far, haven't had a chance to see or touch the Vaterra Slickrock...
using the mini crawler for trails will be quite challenging i suppose....

the jungle is always 1:1 scale, unlike your own backyard where you can maintain a scaled version of terrain, let alone the ever changing jungle... A small truck can never perform as well as a 1/10, neither can a 1/10 perform as well as a 1:1.

What I'm trying to say is, the further you get from 1:1 the fewer the places you can play it. You might as well get an axial ax10 or a wraith at the start then the mini, they are pretty much the similar in price. Go 1/10 !, so many sgcrawler kaki 1/10 scale, scale stuff at 1/10 also easier.

The only advantage of tiny scale I can think of is, you can make your little competition track with less soil.. My opinion, though I've yet to join them on jungle trail... My scx10 about 90% wet trail ready only.

the slick rock already comes with the super swamper. u got another set?
u referring to rock crawling or trailing? rock crawling usually at guilin nature reserved, walking distance to mrt station.
how many packs of batts depends on the mah of batts. if use a 5000mah, 1 pack is enough.
but most of us bring spare batts just in case.

ya bro i bought another set of swampers that are XL size so they are bigger by quite much.. hmm guilin for crawling ya?thanks i'll go have a try once my tires are up , but gonna wait for new wheels and hex widener 1st as the new swampers were so big that they rubbed the body liao lolz...

http://www.streetdirectory.com/sg/bukit-batok-town-park-little-guilin/17428_1.html
the above is the guilin u referred to right?
I tried fort canning that day but nothing much to crawl on they.. no rocks de >.<'''

the batt for the slickrock is only 1100mah, but i ordered 2 more, i'll see again whether i need more more in the future.
the batt compartment is really tiny for it but batt choice is limited for me .

Me too just got into this hobby with a scx10 Jeep. I was wondering if the paint on the body shell easily scratched or do I need to spray a coat of lacquer paint over it. Many thanks for any advise.

The SCX10 Jeep is a lexan body painted on the inside. Paint won't get scratch doing trails, but the body will. so no point lacquer.
Even if a paint is outside the body for instance on a hard body, spray a coat of lacquer wont do any good also.
It bounds to get scratch.

Very true on what bro oceanic was saying. But If you spray a coat of laquer on the surface of the body it will bound to get scratched but it will take longer time compared to a non-laquered body.
