Awesome reporting
Hi all, I'm the real super newbie here..think I'm in love with creepy crawlies
Went to the bukit panjang plaza recently to see the crawler event and would like to congratulate you guys for the excellent effort put in.
Now the serious question - I need a crawler but don't know what to get. Any recommendations? Need something that I can easily find parts in Singapore. Would you recommend the kyosho jimmy? Saw it in toykar web page. It's a kit so would have to take my time to build lor but would certainly need a lot of advices from you guys. Btw I stay at hillview avenue, very near bukit batik so can come out for kopi and let me drool on your crawlers cheerio...
Hope I'm not hijacking this thread..

Arhh..so I did hijack a thread..sorry.
Boolean21 and slow bros..thanks for responding to my thread. I would like both trail (scaler??) and climbing capabilities but if i don't have a choice then i just have to go for one that has climb capability. But climbers can run too, right?
Batteries wise, I hope to be able to use either 2s 5000mah or 3s 2200mah type since I already have them.

hi bro, no worries, i just separated out the thread for the rest to respond easier to you ma.
for rock climbing, there's a Losi Comp Crawler on sale at Rctech, it's similar to the Kyosho Jimny (Rock Force), using worm gears...
bro rtech can advise you more on the Kyosho as he previously owned the Rock Force.
most rock crawlers have vented wheels, so if you plan to mud it, maybe change to another set of wheels and tyres so that mud and water don't get into the wheels...

Yeap saw that at rctech but prefer the looks of kyosho Jimmy. Been searching around websites of tamiya and Winnie too. Hope to be able to find time to visit their shops.

Re: Awesome reporting
For kyosho rockforce, it is not that good at rock crawling . I must say that it is a very tough rig cos all the parts are heavy duty. The chassis is a bit bulky compare to other rock crawlers.
The stock rockforce tires is totally crap for both rock and mud crawling.
If you intend to rock crawl, there is limited location and the rocks in singapore are not the ones you see in other countries. Rock crawling more fun when the rocks are big.
You can use the rockforce for scale trailing. But frequent maintaining of the gearbox is require because of the use of worm gears. Muddy water will get into the the axle gearbox and damage the worm gear. So it is adviceable not to use worm gears for trailing.
There are many location in singapore for trailing.
The axial AX10 rockcrawler is a better choice if you want the best of both worlds. The AX10 uses ring gear and the chassis has better ground clearance and articulation.

Rtech bro, thanks for the advise. Just a little side track - are monster trucks suitable for trailing? I have one and doesnt seem to be as gentle as the ones ive seen at BP Plaza. I would like something that is more for all terrain type hence the preference for climbers. I guess you are right there arent many rocky terrains here in Singapore. Will certainly consider the AX10 as one of the options. I also do not mind having those scale trucks like some of the bros here own.

Thanks for the welcome i also have been looking at it but better to look around first before commiting. I had thought of building one from scratch but after looking at the kyosho king force manual that i downloaded im thinking twice about building one now (piang still have to paint the shell)...easier just to get one rtr and go chiong liao.

Monster trucks can use for trailing provided it is four wheel drive and also the differential gears have to be locked.. The most important thing to take note are the tires. The tires is the key to better crawling.

ok. thanks. How will I know if the differential gears can be locked? Wheel will not rotate if no power? Pardon me as I really don't know much about the mechanics..

rotate one tyre, if the opposite tyre rotate in the opposite direction, then it is not locked...awesome wrote:RTECH wrote:
