Jethobby selling Hobbywing crawler brushless combo system , but no no stock. Have to wait.

Mamba Max Pro ESC with Tekin13.5T Sensored Brushless motor, the greatness... imo lah hehehe

i'm using sensored brushless system from hobbyking in my ota... not bad... runs quite cool... and cheap!!

hmmm.... but for wraith.... i think u have to go for sensorless motor.... unless u wanna tear it out and waterproof it....

i'm using Nosram's Evil Power waterproof sensored brushless esc with Nosram Dragon 2800kv motor, just gotta spray some CorrosionX over the PCB inside will do. i've dipped mine into water, runs alright.

there's an alternative, get Venom's 80a sensorless waterproof esc and a leopard 4-pole 550-size motor, guarantee no cogging, and cheaper than the Nosram's combo.. i bought my Nosram combo at S$280..

Slow, MUD is not equal to tap water. You are not sure the amount of iron content in the nature water.
Testing of electronics using tap water may pass the test but water in the river and mud is a different story.
If you using brushless system for trailing...... be prepared.

Slow go for sensorless brushless motor, like what Boolean did, I think is ok liao.

I thought dose low kv brusdless motor will do the jod?y buy combo when u can buy the esc n motor from hoddyking is cheaper?

Recently I bought a mamba max pro esc. Reason is because it can run brushed or brushless, sensored or sensorless. With the castle link USB programming is easy and I can switch motors anytime. Xtra features are smart sense and cheat mode. I'm still saving up to buy a tekin 13.5T motor. My setup is for rock crawling and sand bashing on the wraith.

i think a lot of you guys misunderstood brushless systems.

brushless as you guys know, are split into sensored and sensorless.

sensored motors have a pcb board which has a sensor connector, this is connected to a sensor cable that is linked to the esc. this pcb board detects which position the rotor of the motor and feedback to the esc so the esc will know which position(A, B or C) to send power to. if intending to run sensored esc in water, must coat the pcb board, and only can coat with CorrosionX or similar products. sensored motors are best used with sensored esc, can be run in sensorless mode with a sensored/sensorless esc as well, but it will cog very badly due to its sensored nature.

now to sensorless.
sensorless motors do not have that pcb board, thus making them more suitable for off-roading/trails/mud. however, they do have poles that are magnetized that spin the rotor in the motor. like boolean mentioned, sensorless motors have the jerking problem, otherwise commonly known as cogging. motor cogging mostly happen to 2-pole sensorless motors, which are the cheapest brushless motors available. for a higher price, one can get a 4-pole sensorless motor, a good example will be Leopard Hobby's 540-size 4-pole motors, they don't cog much, but they're sensorless. low kv doesn't mean won't cog, as kv rating is known as rpm/volt. lower poles mean more cogging. sensorless motors can run with sensored/sensorless esc without any problems(i.e, except cogging).

and personally i don't like Mamba. i used to have 2 Mamba Max Pro esc, but i gave up after they keep going thermal. don't have a good impression of them, plus i think they're way overpriced.
a great cheap alternative is Hobbywing's SCT Xerun 120A esc, takes 2-4S lipos(though the MMP takes up to 6S), also takes sensored and sensorless motors. water splashing onto the Xerun ain't a problem as well, but that can't be said of the MMP..

Wah u really demoralised me with the MMP. Based on what i've read on the various MMP setups i will make do with it.

will if i will to put brushless setup for my crawler i will just buy dose super low kv sensored motor n does esc from hobbyking i think it cheaper dan the combo system

i've read from many forums that MMP keeps going thermal. perhaps its just those who're running short course(that's when i had my MMPs).. only thing is it's not water-resistant.. can't even take splashes..


@Teck: if you're intending to get brushless for your crawler, better to get something that doesn't cog so easily. the cheap ones from hobbyking cog really bad. i tried them before. a good basic brushless for crawler would be hobbywing's, easy to do waterproofing also.

hey guys, just found a great brushless combo for our trucks, HPI's Vapor Pro ESC and Vektor 4000 motor, great power and lots of torque from the 36mm dia, 55mm length 4-pole motor! both are built by Castle creations, can get them pretty cheap off Ebay! whole combo only about S$130+!
