Advise for newbie on Wraith Kit

To all expert brothers here,... I have been looking at the Wraith Kit and found it most interesting to built your own truck from ground up. But , as someone new to RC, I have tonnes of questions to ask ,.. so here goes:

1) Motors - what size to get if wants the truck to run fast too? Novak had a model cut out specially for Wraith , is that good? Or how about Mamba 4600KV motor with the Pro Max ESC? Is Mamba really that good?

2) ESC any good waterproof ones? I actually thought of getting Traxxas electronics since they are all waterproof

3) Does the Transmitter comes with receiver as a set? Is the Futaba 3PL good enough?

4) How about servo? How do I know what size will fit the mounting of the Wraith?

5) What about batteries? some ESC can take double batteries, is it better to have 2 batteries? Can Wraith takes 2 batt?

That's all I can think of at the moment, forgive me if these questions seems very shallow and stupid. Any advise or valuable input is welcome!

personally i dont think the wraith is good for very high speed... things might break if u expect it to run like a short course truck or savage flux...
so mine is slow wraith... might want to wait for the faster ones to reply u on the combo they use... u might want to hop up many parts or order some spares if u plan to run it real fast...
for dual batteries, dont think you would require that or have space for that on the wraith, unless you locate the 2nd batt under the hood
as for servos, any standard sized high torque servos should fit, shdn't be much of an issue

Oh, I am not looking at the speed of Flux,... too fast for Wraith's high structure,.... actually, do we need Futaba 3PL for this? truck/car only needs 2 channel right? Any advantage?

Anyone have experience using Castle Creations ESC or motor?

if you plan to use a winch, Dig unit or get other "crawlers" a 3rd channel would be good... can be used for winch, dig unit, etc...
get a 3rd channel that has 3 positions, will make life easier for you in future if using on winch and dig...

a 2 position 3rd channel works too, but need some DIY mods... not too difficult... had documented it in one of the threads as well as on my blog..

if really don't plan for other RC stuffs, 2channel is sufficient to run it... can also operate the winch using an external switch mounted on the truck...
so it all depends on your pockets and your needs...

my pocket is shallow... so i'm using the 3 channel hobbyking tx ...

Slow down,...slow down,.... what's winch and dig unit?

Actually I asked traxxas if I can use back the Transmitter 2.4Ghz TQi, they says the receiver is not yet available as a spare parts, hence, I don't think I can common use my Traxxas transmitter yet. Else, one less cost

for 4x4 vehicles... when stuck.... can use winch to winch out the truck, or winch out other trucks... so same for the scale trucks.
there are scale winch suitable for mounting onto the scale trucks for some winching actions

for dig unit, it enables you to engage 4wd, 2wd or locked rear wheels (just like handbrake pulled) this enables the truck to manoeuvre tight turns, more for rock crawling...

you can take a look at some winching action and Dig in action in the following video....

some of the trucks are being winched up the steep "cliff" and the green truck and the Red ax10 crawlers has dig installed, at some points, the dig are engaged to lock the rear, for steep downslopes, or turning sharper...

can check out some of our other rock crawling videos for more dig action...
you should get the idea liao right?...

I see,... very interest stuff,... I really like the way you guys dress up your trucks,... really look so cool and realistic!

Btw, what are the turns in the motor means? Eg, 12T vs 20T and size 550 or 540 or 380,... what does all these numbers means?

Turns in the motor means the number of windings of copper wire on the internal rotor of the motor.

More turn = more torque , less revolution per min of rotation.
Less turn = less torque , More revolution per min of rotation.

380, 540, etc. refers to the outer casing size of the motor. The size of motor depends on the scale of your RC. The larger the number , the bigger the motor. The bigger the motor = more power consumption.

One more question,... Servo. What torque size is good , also, are all servo mounting holes standard? Cos I cannot find any dimensional info from the manual of Wraith Kit which I downloaded.

For trailing truck, 13kg torque at 6v is good enuff. Yes , servo holes are standard.
For 1/10th scale RC, use the standard size servo.

Yes,... I think so too,.. especially with so many of you having Wraith too, I must think of how to 'beautify' it differently! haha! I ordered the Novak Timuk2 , now I am searching for servos,... anyone know if the Hitec Waterproof model HS-5646WP will fit?

Wow heavy investment with Timbuk2 and all. Isit the Timbuk2 13.5T Wraith edition? Ur wraith gonna be awesome! Maybe better than ur Summit hehe

I am now using the Hitec HS-5646WP waterproof servo on my wraith. Gonna test it "waterproof " ability this weekend trail.
