Boolean21's 1/10 M923 - 5 ton truck - Newbie try to scratch build a truck body... :D

Boolean21's 1/10 M923 - 5 ton truck - Newbie try to scratch build a truck body... :D
Brain-washed by Master Liew to build a new body for my 6x6 truck...
so, decided to give it a try...
chose the AM General M923 5 tonne 6x6 truck...
the actual truck is more than 7metres long with around 4 metres wheelbase...
it's gonna be BIGGGGGG....
first timer with styrene... starting with zero experience...
i'm a newbie!
this should be taking me quite some time to finish up....
here it goes...
Sized up the truck on the computer

Here's a pic with a soldier standing beside the truck.... it is one big truck!

The rest are the cutting of the styrene for the body... bending the fender flares, layering the styrene for sanding and shaping of the bonnet...
Used 2.5mm thick styrene for all the stuffs in the photos...
It's real easy to cut in straight lines... just made 2 - 3 cuts and can bend and break the styrene nice and straight...
had putty and primed the bonnet once... still need to sand again and putty again... still lots to be done... due to some "mis-cue" on the dremel when sanding the grooves...
the cab is a little too long... will also need to trim it shorter... and make the grooves for the door... still thinking whether to cut and hinge the door... maybe not ba... since it's gonna be an open top... might custom the tube top and add a soft top like the M923 soft top model... see how it goes...
thanks for viewing!

Thanks bros...
Time is very little....
daily schedule tight...
Work around 10-12hrs, family time 2hrs, video editing 2hrs, build time 2hrs... Just nice 6hrs of sleep....
Sometimes work 16-18hrs... Have to cut down the other items to have at least 5 hours of sleep....
Time is really a premium!

I used super glue...
Didnt go out to find tenax... Or plastistruct... Dunno where to buy...
So used super glue...
So far, based on read ups, tenax is the best... It melts and welds the plastic together as one piece...

How did you make the front groove on the bonnet? melt it and pressed down?

No bro... I layered and sanded down....
I guess that was the most time consuming part....

Re: Boolean21's 1/10 M923 - 5 ton truck - Newbie try to scratch build a truck body... :D
some of the minor works updates... didn't have much time to do stuffs... but at least managed to get some minor stuffs done...
Dremel-ed off the cab and shortened it by around 2cm...
Joined back the back panel....
Joined the headlight panel to the light recess area... will mount up the headlight lenses after spraying...
Also, added some square styrene tubing to the windscreen frame to add some thickness to it...
Marked out the protruding stripes on the side of the front cab and added a layer of 1mm thick styrene....
now priming the cab... will take a photo of it later when it is dry...

yes sir, will go take some photos with the honcho in a while and upload.
babyboy wrote:Boolean21, what's the grit number for the sand paper that you use?
babyboy, i use 80 lightly to sand off the very rough edges... and then 500 to smoothen things.... i bought 1000 and 2000... but didn't use them.... personally feel that 500 smooth enough... and for 500, after it wears off a little, light sanding with it already gives very smooth output already...
you might want to try 200 as well... cos 80 is really rough... and have to be careful not to sand too hard...

Re: Boolean21's 1/10 M923 - 5 ton truck - Newbie try to scratch build a truck body... :D
Here are some photos of it using the honcho as a size comparison...
The M923 really has some HUGE fenders...
making the wheels look real small...
The side steps and fuel tank are making the truck's ground clearance low... to make things worst, it has a long long wheel base... so now thinking whether to make the side steps and fuel tanks removable so that it can adapt to terrain as well as look scale when needed...
The cab still looks a tad long compared to the actual truck but don't think i wanna shorten it further... it would be rather cramped for the wrestlers...
here's a shot of the M923 side view...
