dyeing nylon/ABS plastic rims

dyeing nylon/ABS plastic rims
hi guys, just to share my findings, most nylon wheels that 1/8 buggies use are easy to dye, just pop Rit dye in hot water, then put in the wheels, a few minutes later and they're done! but I've been trying to dye ABS plastic wheels, i wanted a set of wheels in black but they only come in white and fluorescent colours! I tried dyeing them the way people dye nylon wheels, but it just doesn't work. subsequently i found a method, by combining Acetone(pure or watson's S$2 nail polish remover) with Rit dye, i was able to dye ABS plastic wheels which weren't able to absorb the dye previously. why not spraying? cos they'll get scratched and the paint will come off! i will share the pictures below, on before, after 1st try with Rit, and 2nd time with Acetone!

I just spray paint it. Only the edge of the rim will get scratch.

Think spray will be a fast and easy idea.

Re: dyeing nylon/ABS plastic rims
here's some pics to show before and after.. i used 1 S$2 bottle of watson's nail polish remover and 1 packet of Rit dye.
1st pic, on the left shows the original white colour of the wheel, the one on the right is after the 1st Rit dye attempt without the acetone.
here's the final result with acetone, both sets of wheels.
here's the steps to getting these perfectly black wheels:-
1. Boil 500ml water in a pot that's not gonna be used for cooking anymore.
2. Stir in the 32g packet of Rit dye, colour of your choice. Stir thoroughly to make sure all the powder dissolves. Turn to a small fire.
3. Prepare about 100ml of acetone/nail polish remover.
4. Put in the wheels and pour in acetone, stir the mixture, until the wheels turn to the colour of your liking.
5. Once wheels are coloured properly, turn off fire and drain the wheels dry, followed with washing, and voila~ Wheels are done! Put on your tires and run!
