My next truck, most likely completely scratchbuilt, need input.

After giving my lego rig a go, I've got a relatively good idea on how a rig should be. Now I've actually contemplated on getting a kit for a long time but always put away by the cost. I've set my mind to build one completely from scratch. When I mean from scratch, I mean from SCRATCH. From the chassis down to the axles. Except maybe the wheels and wheel hubs.

Here's my idea, the chassis is pretty straight forward either alu, steel or carbon fibre. The axles I am thinking of making MOA using robotic dc servo motors with planetory gears already inside and just one outward pair of gears to link to the steel axle connected to the hex hubs then wheels.

the front axle has that extra c carrier for steering, that's where I need input on.
And what's the top speed of your trial trucks ?

You could if you got the right machinearies and unlimited supplies of raw material, else just buy a kit off the shelf and mod it from there, it will save you more money and time in the long run. Scaler doesn't need to be very fast just a little faster then walking speed will do.

Machinery ? I got solder for wielding, and a daiso hand saw for cutting alu. Lol. Seems very legit to me. Well it's not about the cost, it's about the journey of obtaining knowledge. It's more worth than to just get one and go.

Live axle ? Haha perhaps I could put a dummy live axle there just for scale looks (:
I've got a drill, my dad's one. Mmm MOA is way easier to build than a central motor type.

I think I should be able to get gears from simlim tower, they are larger than the hobby ones meant for robots. The gears there already have brass with a hex screw on them.

Now should I be getting ball bearings or just slide the axle into the axle. Metal to metal with plenty of grease will do fine for maybe to 20mph ?

I've looked through hobbyking and found parts I could use for my build. Instead of really making everything from scratch especially the axle shafts and wheel holder I'm using cvd joints from a 1/10 sct truck. I know they handle plenty of sudden torque loads so it might do fine for my purpose.

Would it be interesting if I made my car amphibious ? Make it float in water and have rear water prop. Heh.

You should settle on the basic layout of the truck first.

I have one question which I can't really find the answer to. How much torque does the scx10 and ax10 have at the wheel ? I found a dc gear motor that can propel my car at 11mph at 12kg.cm
