Marpek's first SCT HK Turnigy Trooper 4x4
Hi all,
Finally got into the sct scene with the group, and got the cheapo Turnigy Trooper 4x4 as a gift from my CO as a birrhday present...not too bad man!
Heres the pics...
Applied the decals with my own preference...
Swapped out stock tyres to jconcepts...
Some little reviews:
This truck, as with most reviews in the web, requires a little adjustment before hitting the tracks. The usual stuffs is to change damper fluid ( originals smells like machine oil ). Stock dampers after changed oil feels better, but not too great. Next adjust the toe angles...the rear wheel comes with toe out in my kit!!! Hahaha.... All gear diffs remains untouch, and its time to hit the track at segar!
After slapping in my bling bling Flysky FS-GT3C radio system on her maiden run, not knowing the radio has a fault( again...), I got a run away truck after about 5 meters range, and she hit a rock on the front left wheel and broke the lower hinge pin for the arms...also the bottom damper plastic ball cup!
A quick fixed with an allen key as replacement... by courtesy from sgc speedstream.
Called it a day since couldn't resolved the radio short range issue, and hit the track again another day with another radio. Test run on the 1/8 track , it handles pretty well for a cheap truck. Got good traction with the tyres, and turn in's quite sharp without spin outs which is quite suprising. Could feel slight laziness in turnings due to the soft plastics steering horns, and a must to upgrade. Shocks firstly after rebuild runs quite nice, but after few laps it stops functioning as it would like new. Thus, a little upgrades below...
Alu steering rack.
Alu shocks from my hyper 10tt truggy using back stock trooper soft springs with 40wt oil
After the upgrades ( still with allen key mod ), she tracks like a racer on the 1/10 segar track! The new shocks works well and she flies nicely flat out in mid air and lands nose down with proper throttle managements. Steering felt much responsive on stock servo, but not neccessary to change yet imo. At slight tap of brake she powerslides at hairpin turns without spinouts, then exits out smoothly with anger...I felt im drifting her around the little track alot and feels nice!
So far after 3 packs of 2 different occassions of running, I broke nothing. Not that I did not crash it at all, especially at the 1/8 killer ramp, she mostly backflips 2 to 3 times and land back on its wheels. The shell is still holding up without much cracks ( had to admit didnt crash much ) unlike in other reviews.
Some pics:
Overall, I would rate this truck 8/10. It got rather high ratings personally mainly due to its low price and c/w its performance after some tweeks which cannot beat. I have some queries from members regard this truck. I would say that what you pay for and what you get period, and what kind of service you expect...NONE!. If you are both then get it! Its not for someone who rely on after sales parts to maintain their toys, which then its better get some branded trucks. Happy bashing!

A shot vid of trooper 2nd attempt bashing. Running with 2S, stock chassis, stock rebuild dampers, etc...

After several packs of driving with 2S only, theres no significant signs of wearing. Not becoz they are strong or good, but due to its low kv motor hence its not blasting fast when bashing... but good enough for tracking driving. I was a little concern at first of its centre alu rod which looks like iys gonna break if driving hard with intermittent throttle but I wad wrong too. If going 3S I will not vouch for that and all above as theres history regards breaking up if going 3S... I would recommend gearing in order to match the speeds required...
Another point to note is the tyres. The Jconcepts sub-cultures tyres( softest compound )has plenty good grip and most importantly, its also suprisingly resistance to wear. It will be a good choice if upgrading the sct tyres for performance and long lasting wear.
