For rock crawling, 2.2 size rigs , recomanded tires size is 5 to 5.5 inches depending on the setting of your rig. There will be a sweet spot in between the range of 5 to 5.5 inch that suit your rig. Too high will increase your rig CG and tumble over.
5 to 5.25 inches is easy to set your rig to success. If you are using 5.5 inch tires need to reinenforce the side wall of the tires to prevent fold over . Side wall of tires can reinenforce by cutting pieces of lexan and insert into the tires or increase the stiffness of the foam.

Increasing ground clearance of your rig depends on wat type of rocks you are crawling. Large and smooth rocks don't need much clearance, best run on droop setting. Smaller , sharp edges rocks require more ground clearance.
Normally rock crawlers will get stuck on the lower links and belly. Increasing the tire size only helps a little. Best is to use bent links and increase the belly height ( something like the mantis chassis).
Increase the weight to the front . Rear should not be heavy as this could result in the rig being pull back when crawling uphill. When crawling downhill, if the rig rear is light, it will tends to lift up. This is where the dig comes into operation. When the dig is engage the front of the rig will force to pull the locked rear in which cause the rig to squat. You can see the rig is squating when the rear shock is compress. This prevent the rear of the rig from lifting up.
