Newbie Here!! Empty Newbie Here!!

Post by dragonl Sat 15 Feb 2014 - 18:31

Hi Everyone, a newbie to RC but not new to offroad and trails scene (not done it personally but love to watch all those competitive trail from Germany). I am also a fan of construction and trailer (yeah, another poison from Germany), those massive vehicle just make u drool. It is hard to hook myself up with RC as it is hard to find where those shop. Oh by the way I own 2 tankies, not top grade but fun. Hope everyone here can show me the way. Cheers.

Paiseh Bro. Was down with fever that day. I have been checking the web up, seems like most sites are selling racers. I am in love with trucks as well as high-lift vehicle, but I think trucks will mean sticking to the tarmac. So may look for high-lift vehicle for a start. I am quite keen on Hilux highlift or Defender, can point me to the right direction?

No worries Bro. For Hilux you can get the TF2 and the defender GelandeII D90 or D110. RC Modelex is another option for D90 and D110. These kits are nice and no mod is required. TGN Distribution, RC4WD, RPP etc...

As for me I got the Axial SCX10 and bought a D90 body to fit with some mod. Did modify 1 D90 to a D110 camel and another army soft top D110(still in progress). Axial kit from TowerHobbies. Register as member and wait for the discount coupon send to your email...

Thanks Babyboy, I am still new to all the jargon but getting hold of it. SCX10 is one of the chassis, how about those in Tamiya? The Tamiya ranges are confusing, you have clod master using 2 motors, CR, CC and so on. Which chassis is ideal for truck cum crawler?

Bro Boolean21, yeah I love trucks and landy. Would have gotten a Hilux Turbo with Mod for real if it isn't for all the restriction here.

The Axial SCX10 Babyboy (and most others Laughing) is recommending  is one of the best trail trucks on the market. RC4WD Trailfinder 2 (Hilux) is great too: 2-speed gearbox, awesome hard plastic scale body, lots of good quality metal. Only downside is the leaf spring suspension (SCX10 has coil-over oil shocks).

Tamiya is a bit old-school. Incredible scale details, but less performance. The best performing one (on trails) is maybe the CR01, but makes the cars look like a monster truck. The CC01 is a nice little chassis with pretty body options (Unimog, Blazer, Land Cruiser ...) but let down by a weak drive train, too little ground clearance, poor stock tires, and a horrible steering mechanism. Cold Buster is a Monster Truck, I guess designed for fun and stunts, never seen one on the trail. Although people put the awesome body on other, more trail-friendly chassis.

Often people build the Landy body on an SCX10 or an Tamiya CC01. Both require modifications. Check out the numerous build threads here on this forum!

Many of us buy trucks on-line. RCMart in HK is selling Axial since a short while, TowerHobbies in the US has often coupons and deals that can make sense to buy it from there. Do your research before you buy. Come to a Sunday meeting to chat with owners. I am sure some will even let you do a test-drive so you can see what it is like.
