[PHOTOS] Tamiya TA02 Castrol Toyota Celica GT-Four
Another one done and dusted.
We purchase a TA02 from Japan off eBay around Christmas. It had the composite chassis and other goodies. It came with a Subaru Impreza Monster shell that was much newer than the chassis. We acquired the Celica '93 shell that was sold with the TA02 originally (Kit no 58129) and a rally interior. Here is the final result:
It is the second rally interior we've painted. It looks better this time around, but still far from perfect. Lots of hours went into coloring this little piece of plastic
The chassis is used but in good condition. It came with a vintage Sanwa servo and speed controller (Made in Singapore!), and a 23T Kyosho motor. We replaced the electronics with modern stuff to make the car drivable. Everything fits under the upper deck so it is nicely out of view.
I had some issues with the rear gearbox that took me quite some time to sort out. It was very noisy. After changing basically all the parts it turned out that excessive wear on the pinion gear was the issue. Now it runs nice and quiet.
The rims are the original ones for the Celica. We've mounted medium hardness Speed Mind Rally block tires onto them.
thanks for viewing!
