Great idea on using the tape to trace out the panels!
Looking forward for more updates on the build..
I'm glad that you could pick up on the tape trick. That is why we share so that the people and the hobby gets better.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
This flush mounted 7075 cross brace supports the batteries and also keeps the body from flexing or trying to shift.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I have the side panels painted white but it is taking a while to dry due to the cold weather. I will be painting the chassis the same way so it should be fun to look at when the body is lifted.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
The interior showed up. I plan to add some paint to it so that it matches the outside panels.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
Wow, looks fantastic! Nice vibrant color. And of course the interior brings it to life!
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I got tired of painting. I have another coat to go and some more detail to go.
Amen to that! It really pops now!

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I have The Traxxas Slayer bumper cut up and modified to get the looks that I need. The bonus is it is a great handle to carry it with.
The bumper is now snug to the body and the right size.

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I made a strap for the hood pins as well as a tow strap the gear cover came in today also.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
The reason for the bumper is not just for looks but it works as a stop for the body when it is open.
I added a swivel to the rear summit bumper and a stainless D-ring for better detail and to use as a way to pull Axial Yeti XL's from being stuck trying to fallow me! lol!

It's AWESOME! The looks the way it climbs everything is just fun. It goes in the crazy places. I will make a video! I looks like a spider on rocks.Wrigleys wrote:Nice.. How do you find the beast so far?
I have it geared low I'm using the DR. Mad Thrust 4074 1200kv motor on 4s SMC 9400 65-130c Lipos and a 65 Spur and a 12 tooth pinion.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I should have cleaned the lens before taking this picture!

I also broke a Spool in less than 5 min. today on my first run!

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I can't believe the power these little motors have! It pushes this 17 pound Buggy with no problems. In fact it broke the rear spool in less than 5 minutes. I bought 2 to try in my boat years ago. I don't remember the kv but it is just right for a summit gear box. It has a 5mm shaft so, it is meant to handle torque! I will need to be looking into a mesh sock to keep dirt out.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I have some new parts on the way. The low gearing and large tires is play a big part in buying quality parts. I broke a spool is a very short period of time. I'm also having problems with the BEC. Here are some of the parts on the way.
I'm hoping that locking all 4 wheels will help in not only it's crawling ability but last loner before braking anything. I also broke a plastic diff cup in the front end. I wish Traxxas had over engineered the diffs... but where is the money in that!

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I installed the rear Hot Racing Spool yesterday and today the MIP Drive CVD front and rear came in today. I will have then in shortly.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
The parts came in to install the front shifting locker assembly.
I'm still waiting from LEADING EDGE MACHINE to send the 7075 cnc diff cup!

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I got the front and rear Traxxas Summit Bulk Heads in today. This will cover the front because for the moment the rear has a spool and it is using the Revo bulk head.
The fist thing was to bolt it to the frame so that I can mark where the shifting lever goes through the frame. I used a file to notch the piece needed to get it fitted.
I added to the photo what needs to be done to keep the frame and Bulkhead as one in a build like this. I added longer bolts of course to get the nuts to fit. with the parts in place it becomes a very stiff front end, Much more so than the stock chassis of both the Traxxas Revo/Summit or the Axial Yeti. Some day soon I hope to make a chassis out of carbon fiber. It will be the last part of the build.

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I had to switch around the shifting rod and now it doesn't get in the way of the shocks.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
These 2 pictures show what a difference 1/2 thick foam vs full foam on the rocks. I installed the RC4WD Desert Reaper fronts for this. They are softer than the Proline Trenchers that I had on before. These are also narrower! I think they are more scale looking also.
Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I'm having a little fun while waiting for parts.
I installed a Hi-Lift Jack and a larger more scale hood. this time I cut the hood opening so that the motor looks more scale. It is large so, it will get hit alot in roll overs. I built it with a brake-a-way system so that I can make fast easy repairs.

Re: YETI XXL HYBRID
I bought 2 mini servos to shift the front end and the trans. I got them from ebay. 1 works and the other doesn't. It's to late to send it back, so I will order another one from him and when it comes in I will send the 2nd bad one back. Its to bad I found out after waiting for ever on the diff cup to come in! I got it all parts in and now I have to wait on parts that don't work. Same thing with the Hitec 5755 servo I bought it used and it is a pile of junk.
In the pictures below is a white container from OFNA that has Diff-Loc in it. you get 1/2 a container (not much) $12.00 I used it in this diff.
