Building custom chassis help/advice/suggestion needed Empty Building custom chassis help/advice/suggestion needed

Post by babyboy Wed 15 Aug 2012 - 14:29

I want to build a custom chassis so that I can build any truck on top of it. I have look around and found that buying an Axial SCX10 kit is still cheaper than custom make till I found this ARB SE Trex 60 front and rear plastic complete axel only cost $109.99 from TGN. Anyone has this? Any comment on this axel?

Hi Liew. The 79.90 T rex 60 tech shows a shorter width in mm but both still shows 8" width. Very confuse. The 79.90 dun come with the 12mm hex and some parts for the setup of suspension and link.

Steering link can DIY just need to buy some extra item to link up. But the SCX Kit got a lot of spare things that I do not need. I'm still doing my calculation on costing.

Looking more for flexibility to just buy the L bracket to do up chassis whenever I change truck body. I ored have 2 SCX 10. Just need another for DIY project. Now considering to buy a 3rd SCX or custom.

I looked at the t rex 60 before... If I remember correctly, the 109 ones come with the arb metal covers... The 70+ ones haave normal plastic covers...

The red arb ones will look great for a landy build or hilux build... Very Happy
you still need a transmission, shafts, shocks, etc....

TGN site shows only the axle without the nuts and some other item included in the 109. so not sure if they do come as the site not so clear. The red arb cover looks really nice! SCX spare mostly are the body and left over parts. May be able to salvage some. Smile

If the additional item comes to slightly higher than the scx is still considered OK. Cos I get the free hand of customization to build anything on top of it. I can have different wheel base at any time without having dependent on the scx chassis. L bracket is not expensive and still can do the job, like what you did on your build.

Hi Bro. If you can wait than should not be a problem. As I'm still looking for the correct parts to fit. As you know I just started out and not sure if all parts I want will fit. Its a Rojak parts.

ya man... used 3mm thick L-brackets for 3 builds so far... Very Happy
cheap and good... can consider 1mm thick L-brackets too... some of the bros use the 1mm thick ones still holding well...

yeah, it's the joy of building the truck from raw material and see it run... the feeling is priceless... Very Happy i think when wyetuck see his metal landy offroading in the trails... he'll feel that all his effort is worthwhile! Smile

looking forward to your next build thread babyboy. Smile

Thanks boolean21. I'm still learning to build. I'll build my second D110 but will be mostly picture all the way for my second SCX. So once finnish I'll upload all pic together from the beginning to the end. Now have to do some maintenance to the existing scx. Think have some minor problem with the front axel that do not have the same turning speed as the back axel. Need to open up and check.
