Zax's unboxing and project skunkworks of the HL German Tiger I...
Well here it is the Heng Long Geman Tiger I... Decided to splurg a bit of cash and see what the commotion is all about. Thanks to Bro Boo for helping me to get this in my most busy hours... Appreciate it.
The item seems to be well packed and also have very good illustrations in the front to attract those who have no need of 200 hard earned bucks....
Flip the front hard cover and voila!!! You have a sneak peek of the item inside.... The marketing of this item is superbly done... but is it what we expected from the price point of view?
Outside the box the item is well packed inside a tight fit foam. Included in the package are FM radio, 7.2V NiCd 17mah, charger, Some BBs, manual, stickers, Box of accessories and the tank itself. (The hop-up option box in the picture is not part of the stock buy.)
Here it look on my humble work area on a stand. I must admit, it does look good but very dull on the paint work department.
What ever it is, do not carry by the barrel...
The detail is quite good for a tank of this price range...
The FM antenna sticking out is really a let down... One of the things in my change checklist...
Yeah!!! Metal tracks baby...
Paint came off when peeling off the tape...
BB goes in here...
Some manufacturing defect but nothing some epoxy putty cant fix...
Overall the built quality from outside is not really shabby looking. With some paint work can really make this bugger stands out...

After testing out all the functions, here what I did in 2 hours...
I broke down everything to pieces and will start to give the exterior a good rubdown before I start painting a different colour.

After rubbing down the hull is prime... Using bright colour primer to bring out the later spray base colour and to differentiate weathering effect...
Now I did the base weathering by using flat black. Its good to have an idea on how ur weathering areas gonna be.
All items left to cure for a day before starting to spray base colour.
Spraying the base colour... Do some light coats layer by layer as to prevent the dark sprayed weathering effect from totally disappearing...
Under another shade of light which is not to bright... Left the item to dry for a day again... before touching up the weathering effect again.
Weathering done to some areas again...
Thought of a colour to paint the track for a a while... Mixed alot of colours to get the final colour to settled on...
Wheels are painted as well with base weathering applied...

Outstanding. I think you need to get another tank and put this one as self queen.
As the SGcrawler rules says: " Get 3, one for play , one for display and one for spare."

After painting the body base colour and add somemore dark & rusting weathering effect to give it a more life like look. Didn't like the clean look of the tank. Seems like just got out from factory production so I decided to give it a bit of wear and tear on the paint...
The gear wheels got a makeover as well...

Re: Zax's unboxing and project skunkworks of the HL German Tiger I...
Now after painting the turret with the base colour and rust weathering, its time to do abit of paint flaking on it... Need to take it slow when doing weathering to avoid getting carried away and spoiling the model on a whole...
For paint flaking effect Im using vallejo German cam. black brown #822. Using a cut sponge and dabbing it bit by bit to avoid smudging... same effect was applied to the wheels and and other parts as well.
Here is the picture of the turret without any paint flaking effect. Before...
Here is the close up picture on several parts of the turret after effect is applied...

Great work! Are you also into static scale-models then?
Did you buy the Vallejo paints locally or on-line?
