questions about SCX10
hi guys,
i've started rc for quite some time and i am slowly getting into EP 1/10 off roading, apart from my very old traxxas stampede as it seems to be an increasingly popular hobby in sg now. Hence, i really appreciate if you guys can help me clear some of my doubts
1) is there any scx10 dealers in SG and if so,
2) approximately how much is the retail price for a new scx10
if not,
3) are there any ways to get a new scx10 in singapore other than online?
4) may i know is there any owner willing to let go of their scx10(preferably new or used a few times only)
lastly,
if all of the above does not work,
5)is there anyone who can order online and deal with me in sg?
thanks a lot

Re: questions about SCX10
I bought my SCX10 kit at $400sgd shipped, towerhobbies. $100 Item and Christmas discount because G6 was coming out.
Right now Towerhobbies has;
"SAVE $40 on a $220.00 order"
"SAVE $55 on a $300.00 order"
"SAVE $75 on a $400.00 order"
"SAVE $100 on a $530.00 order"
USD
All for members.
If you get a cart
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDAJP&P=ML
+$20 (anything)
= $300

To become member without buying stuff first just put stuff into your cart den go to check out, but don't pay.. den cancel cart and you become member liao. Because TH don't allow you to just sign up for member.
Buy RTR = GOT Esc motor Tx Rx , need to buy metal links, shocks
Buy Kit = GOT Lots of metal stuff, No Electronics.
Kit more fun to build and you can make sure everything is solid ! Shipping also cheaper, because it doesn't come in a huge box.

Re: questions about SCX10
Me too, prefer cash, but it's always more expensive. Just get from TH, trust them, and get the aluminium links and upgrades in the same cart... same shipping price.
One fine example for more expensive.. TH Traxxas Summit 579 usd + around 100 shipping, = 679 = 880sgd..
Singapore NTC hobbies sell 1100sgd..

Just another question - do you guys prefer the wrangler or honcho? And are there any advantages for our sg off road courses? Cheers

Re: questions about SCX10
Towerhobbies only has problems with fraudulent credit cards.. You pay, they guarantee you get it. Mine came in 7days USPS Priority Mail Intl.
In the past, when wrangler just came out it had upgraded parts. Now it think both honcho and wrangler have the same core parts. So it's based on looks now.. go research. not so sure myself, cuz i got the kit, already fully upgraded

Here's my Rubicon Unlimited, with some personal DIY upgrades. Most of the extra stuff are bought from Hobyking, cheap and plenty to choose from, and I am still customising it.

Re: questions about SCX10
Thanks !
One more thing, the most important.. MAXXIS TREPADOR TIRES included in the wrangler are better than Axial's Ripsaw in the honcho. Used extensively in competitions as the "Pit Bull Tires" before the Axial Treps were out. More value for money, IMO.
One thing to have is a good set of tires, for your rig is as good as its grip. You'll perform better with a great tire with bad motor than good motor but not so good tire.

Re: questions about SCX10
Than do you guys constantly change tires and shell cos wont the truck flip while doing hard core climbing? And is wrangler or honcho more scale looking in your opinion such as size and looks?

Re: questions about SCX10
Maxxis Trep are scale replica tires.. Ripsaw are Axial's own design.
Jeep is a scale replica, Honcho I don't even know what that is.
So you tell me which one more scale ?

Re: questions about SCX10
Gee why did you double post.. Change tires, unless you're doing cross country or have a brushless system, you tires wear out very slowly... For Body shell, I don't do much high rock crawling but more on trailing so not much body damage.

So have you decided ? I much prefer the wrangler rubicon than Honcho, but it's still up to you. One way is to browse through our videos to compare them on the trails.

Re: questions about SCX10
Excluding Tx and Rx, $400 for the kit, almost $50 for the miscellaneous stuff, like marine grease, WD40, a good Hex Wrench, super glue.. the basic stuff...
On top of that another $50 of electronics mostly from Hobbyking, so cheap cheap. And another $100 parts I already have laying around for robots and planes.
So total $600 ?

Re: questions about SCX10
Thats a good price. But does the cheap cheap electronics work well for crawlers? Im not sure but I do know that drifters use 10.5t or 8.5t motors but I heard that many use high turns like 55t. And wont things get a bit hot with waterproofing ?

Re: questions about SCX10
I don't believe in paying extra for guarantee and warranty, they're all made in china. Who needs the warranty when you can buy more of the same stuff for the same amount of money. It's not like the counterparts have fewer features, in fact some have better.
Just stick to the stock 27Turn motor and 20Teeth pinion, if you need more torque get a 16 or 12 teeth pinion, should be close to 35Turn I think.
For waterproofing, it's because you only look at the common waterproofing methods ! clearly you have not seen me using epoxy on mine.

Ohh I see that there are many waterproof methods . In any cases, had you ever used the spare tire behind the car ?

Re: questions about SCX10
The spare tyre is more for looks only. We have not change tyre because or wear cos it doesn't wear out. We change tyre becos of looks.... for scale or for terrain. Dont buy in a haste. Join us for our trail even if you do not have a truck. You can compare diff trucks available and which will suit your requirement. TowerHobbies do have sale once in a while.... do look out for it. During sale SCX10 cost usd199.00.
Do read up this forum on the available info that other bro post of their truck build. The RTR or Kit or DIY projects.

Thanks for your advice ! I'll consider buying online since its likely a one time thing since tyre changing is not needed unlike drifting

Re: questions about SCX10
SCX10 all uses the same chassis with different length of links and body shell for the trucks available. Google Axialracing.... and look thru the trucks under SCX10.
Come join in the trails and talk with the guys before buying. Thats what I did. They can show you the different trucks under SCX10 and where to get cheap and good value electronics. I have no regret meeting them. A great friendly bunch of guys. Look for the guy they call "Boss". There's trail almost every week. Look out for it posted in the forum.
