What's next Poison for SGC Tourers?

Post by Marpek on Fri 29 Mar 2013 - 16:53

We got new tracks...

Maybe new tent shade coming to shield the raging heat of the sun...

What about new affordable same class chassis for serious touring, instead of bashing from M05 - SCT 4x4!?!?

I have considered a F1 racing class, but many negative comments of parts breakages and a big no no... Yes, current within our group we have 1/10 scale mainly Tamiya touring cars, but all were different chassis groups and some hopped extensively...

After checking in internet, and did some thoughts, actually a mimi FWD chassis will be a great option as we are all used to 4WD. A cheap RTR will be the HPI Switch(around $139 @amain ). Parts Taising manot not have and not very tunable chassis i guess...

Next will be of course the Ultimate Tamiya M05 or newer FF03( wheelbase longer than M05 ), and parts easily get. Rcmart kit for M05 aroung $109 - 130 depending on model choose. FF03 about same ad M05. FF03 in my opinion easier to tune than M05 as chassis rather modern and simple...M05 on other hand had more body shells to choose from( Suzuki Swift Super 1600 my fav ). Both kit prices includes std silver can and ESC.

Any comments please, and do share your thoughts if its feasible ornot, or abort mission, haha...or have other chassis in mind, eg. Tamiya Lemans, etc?

Ya... maybe post some pics to start the poison flowing!

A group of minis running together would be really sweet!

Tamiya M05 using the standard rounded edge battery stick.
Most of us already using lipo packs with square edges and hard cases.
will have problems mounting battery.

Yes, that will have issues, tho I search the net ppl mod the battery compartment for hardcase lipos. May not be good choice for M05, but we can even ran then with old skool sticks if dun mind, and thats whats all about have a closed batt and motor race. After finished race we can continue with normal fav cars for bashing! Just an idea, and thanks for pointing the batt issues.

Another cons for M05 is the stock rubbers may be inferior in traction comparing to FF03 as you can see in the pics. FF03 only cons I see is the shortes wheelbase is 233mm ( 210mm for M05), thus your fav mini shells cannot fit!

Just a warning to you guys. Tamiya+lipo+brushless motor = chui chui.
No joke. Dun believe, you all can try. Gears wear off very fast , especially the small diff gears. Then comes the dog bone cups.
Unless keep it stock form, then last longer.

2wd cars less wear because of solid axle and less parts. But must use grippy tires, or else very difficult to drive. Grippy tires wear-off fast.

For the front motor, front wheel drive more ideal for 2wd. Can use less grip tires . Less spin off.

Bro, thanks for advice!

Btw, my intentions is run stock motors and closed stock tyres, and even closed 7.2V batts for the race if possible, just like some Stargek TT01 stock class race whereby you purchased and assemble and race on the spot! Maybe can also organised a RedBull race so you will see many many mei mei's! Twisted Evil

Lastly, also like to invite u back and join us as many misses you manz... mushy from me but true!

Sorry for wrong infos above, as FF03 chassis comes with std 1/10 257mm wheelbase and shells, thus not mini in size, but can convert within the stock kit to shorter wheelbase. Sianz...

Sorry guys again... Embarassed

Need to amend the kits hardware for both chassis. The FF03 Does not include esc in kit form fot its price.

M05 is a good choice for touring. Last time i play M03 with friends using mini cooper, all keep stock. Fun , challenging and we are laughing as we race because they are cute !
Minimal parts wear.
For playing touring, best that all cars are using the same chassis, same electronics, then it will be challenging and need skill to overtake not power.

As for FF03, more suitable for drifting. Too heavy at the front end when running high speed become unstable.

As for coming back, not so soon coz of finacial problem. Now business no good, no money and no mood to play other RC.
Will definately join you guys when the situation get better. Have fun !

Interesting discussion!

Speaking about Mini's Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy :

We acquired a box of M-05 parts last week. Patrick and I put it together yesterday morning, fun little build.
Very fun to drive, and very easy to drive. If you get in trouble and you let go of the power the rear whips around, keeping the car usually away from obstacles that you were about to hit. Patrick likes this feature as it allows him to drive aggressive without banging up the car within 2 minutes.

I've studied the FF-03 manual yesterday after seeing the talk, and it is definitely a better, more modern design. Metal motor mount, oil shocks, fully adjustable, real spur gear with lots of gearing options.
A basic M-05 has none of those, and if you upgrade to the same level the price difference approaches zero.
Given RTech's driving experience comparison the M-05 may still be better. Parts for the M-05 also seem to be cheaper and more widely available than for the FF-03.

At Stargek this morning there is a lot of choice for both M-05 and FF-03. M-05 run at about 220 before discount, FF-03 between 300 and 350. They also have a lot of TT-01E on sale for 178 only (not sure if further discount applies, most likely no).

A note on which kit to choose: most come with the 104BK ESC, but some kits like the new Golf that was posted above come with the 105BK ESC that has a BEC, therefore a better choice for modern electronics.

exciting times, Werner

PS: due to the discount had to get an M-06 today. Thanks kelvintan_hc Cool Another body for the car is on order, yet an other LANE Boys memory-lane build coming up geek
