R2hobbies Waterproof ESC Trial and Review
RC Boat EL Water Resistant 110A ESC Electronic Speed Controller
As of Time of post, price is US$13.35, i think after you log in as member, you'll enjoy 10% discount...
I've ordered 2 of these few months back, tried installing the first one in my wraith... and it shorted out even before running... anyway, it's a little big for the wraith... to continue the story, I feedback to R2Hobbies about the faulty ESC and after a few explanation emails, they sent me a replacement ESC...
So, finally, i managed to find time to test it out... i've replaced the plugs to deans and bullet connectors for the motor, and installed it in my 6x6 unimog...
full throttle for slightly more than a minute, forward, reverse, pushing the unimog against the wall while full throttle.... everything seems great...
next trail will test it out in deep mud and water if the terrain permits!
if it survives the deep water and mud test, then you guys can consider getting this cheap waterproof ESC...
fingers crossed.... i'll bring extra ESC if i remember... so that i do not need to carry the truck back if the ESC decides to rest....

Re: R2hobbies Waterproof ESC Trial and Review
Tested and proven!
Its a NO GO!!! Haha
Works great when mudding and some shallow water....
When fully submerged... The forward shorted out... Have yet to open up to see whether it is due to water entry or due to the transistor failure....
So... Better dont try this ESC....
For cheap ESC, buy the china 320A micro ESC that I posted last time... After siliconed, works like a submarine...

Re: R2hobbies Waterproof ESC Trial and Review
after "BBQ-ing" one of the R2 ESC during the previous trail... i decided to open up one of the working ones...
Here are some photos...
hmm, no rubber seal / gasket on the ESC case...
the PCB and components doesn't seem to be waterproofed... no potting compound at all!!!
so now i highly suspect the 2nd burnt ESC is due to water damage.... will open up the burnt ESC to check it out when i have time...
so... i used my favourite waterproofing method -> using neutral cure silicone and go over the whole ESC and the capacitor...
here's the PCB back into the case... couldn't cover back properly, but nothing a cable tie couldn't solve...
now, will see which rig to house this ESC in and bring it for a swim / dive test!
if it holds up well, it'll be a good and cheap ESC to use for trails.... just need to do up the DIY waterproofing..

Re: R2hobbies Waterproof ESC Trial and Review
ok, finally have a chance to try out the DIY waterproof-ed ESC in water!
did a full submerge test during yesterday's trail.... enjoying the swim till i forgot i have the cap light on the roof rack of my landy,... full landy submerged... till the cap light went under the water as well...
have to open up the cap light tonight and dry it then try if it is still working...
ok, back to the R2Hobbies ESC...
it's alive!
so likely will be ordering a few more of this cheap ESC that can run 3S...
Warning: buy at your own risks...
things need to do to use the R2Hobbies waterproof ESC
1) change all plugs to DEANs
2) waterproof the PCB board with NEUTRAL CURE Silicone
the above are 2 things that i did...
