Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
currently thinking if I should do leaf spring or coil spring with 4 links?
leaf spring is a bit more work for me, it will look good but doesnt have much articulation as compared to coil springs with 4 links.
Does anyone have both coil spring and a leaf spring rig? which one preform better?

Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
some Updates!!!
I have chosen to go with leaf springs, since the series ii land rover uses leafs springs.
Made some sketches and started on making them.
I bought a roll of chainsaw recoil spring from ebay.
cut to length heat them up and bend into shape with plier. You can also use springs from windscreen wiper
I think I will be using 3 leafs on the Front and 4 on the back
Made all four of them, the rear spring will be much stronger due to the weight of the body
Mock up of the leafs on the chassis. I will make the mounts next week, I think they turns out ok for a first attempt.
Bought the body to get it weld up too! I will not post up the name of the shop here, (but you can pm me if you need the shop help.)
I think I went at a wrong time when they are rushing to finish some other customer's work, everyone is a bit jumpy
and somehow the results came out not how I wanted it to be but I guess it will have to do for now, alignment on the left side of the
body and window panel is off, and there are gaps between the roof and window panel.
The body is now 60% finished and it still need more works, need to redo some parts.
I hope you like it! Thanks for reading

Thank you sir!
still deciding on the ride height.
Anyway I was shocked by the price of a transfer gearbox on ebay...USD76 not including
shipping!!! Its was way out of my budget. I think I will build my own transfer gear.

Check the thread in diy section, I posted the address for the styrene...
Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
orh ok. anyway I am facing lots of problem with leafs, they kept breaking at the mounting holes that is used to screw on to the axial axle. Also U bolts are hard to make for axial axle too, as they are a kind of square and round shape contour. I think I am going to take the easy way out and use springs instead.

Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
Why not use m3 threaded rods to make the u bolts?
No choice la, yours is HEAVY METAL...

Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
problem is its hard to make the m3 thread follow the contour of the axial axle...Either i grind away the extra material to make it a square and make square U bolts or I have to get new axle...

Hi bro, managed to find some pictures of what I meant...
Re: wyetuck88's Land Rover Series 2 SWB build thread
I know what you mean If I do that I got to remove this extra material at the shock mount. Not only it will affect the structure but also affect the value of the axial if I decided to sell my crawler one day
